Daily News
Christian Science is based entirely on the words and works of Christ Jesus; and every individual healing of sin or disease is being accomplished, not by suggestion or hypnotism, but by the simple truth the Master came to reveal. Christian Scientists recognize that to the sinful, sick, sorrowful, and dying, buried in the beliefs of a false material sense of life, he came to bring the knowledge of the Son of God, and that, in his own words, "ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," thus revealing for all time to humanity a higher, holier conception of man as the image and likeness of God. This revelation, as it dawns on the individual, necessarily results in the destruction of erroneous beliefs, healing the sick, and casting out evils.
The prayer of the Christian Scientist is ever for a greater unfoldment of the knowledge of the Son of God—the Christ—in human consciousness; for he knows that this understanding is the one great healer which will lighten the darkness, bring peace to the world, and universally uplift and save. On page 519 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes: "Mortals can never know the infinite, until they throw off the old man and reach the spiritual image and likeness. What can fathom infinity! How shall we declare Him, till, in the language of the apostle, 'we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ'?"
