I feel impelled to bear testimony to all that the practical application of Christian Science has wrought in my family. In the summer of 1921 my wife at first suffered from general indisposition and lack of appetite, which after a few weeks developed into stomach trouble. I sent her to the hospital to undergo a thorough examination. The doctors found her suffering from various diseases. They told her she must exercise great care, and come back in eight days for an X-ray examination. However, after three days the pain in the stomach became so severe that my wife had to remain in bed. The doctor who was called immediately diagnosed the trouble as gastric ulcers. Accordingly he prescribed medicine, the application of hot and cold poultices, and so on. The condition, however, did not improve; on the contrary, it grew worse every hour. Moreover, the family physician advised me to send my wife to the hospital in case an operation became necessary.
In my extremity I telegraphed to my sister, who is a Christian Scientist, and asked for her assistance. Following my call, my sister came to the sick bed of my wife and started Christian Science treatment. An improvement was noticeable after she had been with her but a short time. The unconscious condition of my wife disappeared, and after about a week she was able to take light food. From that time on her condition improved daily. After another three weeks she was able to leave her bed, and could eat every kind of food without the slightest ill effect. Her complexion had been alarmingly pale, so that one might think there was not another drop of blood in her veins. This was soon overcome; and I have never seen my wife look so well as she does now.
I am grateful for all the help I have received from the practitioner whom I asked for treatment. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for the loving service rendered. Only a life of continuous growth in grace can prove my thankfulness for what Christian Science has done and is doing for me and mine.
