When I first heard of Christian Science, about four years ago, I was greatly in need of physical help, having suffered acutely for more than twelve years from foot troubles, caused by fallen arches and rheumatism. I had tried an endless procession of material remedies without gaining any permanent relief; so, although I was extremely skeptical as to the healing power of mental treatment for what appeared to be a complaint needing surgical attention, I was persuaded to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and soon afterwards applied to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. During the time I was being treated, I saw my son instantaneously healed of concussion of the brain, caused by a fall on the ice. This healing at once changed my thought of Christian Science, and I was convinced of its truth. I thereafter began to study more earnestly, still having treatment and help from the practitioner, with the result that I was completely healed. I had worn a pair of heavy steel arch supports for over nine years, but I discarded them, and have never used any material remedy since.
I am very grateful for the benefits which I have received from Christian Science, and most of all for the very different understanding which it has given me of God and man's relation to Him. The Bible had been a closed book to me for many years; but the study of Christian Science has shown me the spiritual meaning of its teachings, and has revealed to me a never failing source of help to which I can turn in all the problems of my daily life, however great or however small they may be.
