I should like to give another proof of God's care for His...

I should like to give another proof of God's care for His children. About a year ago our little boy, aged ten years, went into the fields to bring the horses home. He did not return as soon as he should, and I became a little anxious, although I tried to realize God's protection for him wherever he was. About an hour later a neighbor brought him home. He was unconscious, had a gash across his forehead, and was covered with dirt and blood. He had been kicked by a horse.

We tried to call a Christian Science practitioner by telephone, but were unable to reach one that evening; so we thought it best to send for a doctor, as our understanding of Christian Science then seemed but slight. The doctor from a near-by small town came. He took some stitches and asked us to bring the child to his office in about two days to have the wound dressed. The next morning we succeeded in communicating with a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly took up the work. That day the child rested well and regained consciousness; but we were young in Science and fear seemed uppermost, and the child appeared to grow worse. We took him to the physician whom we had first called. When he saw the boy, he was undecided as to just what to do. He said there was a depression, and advised us to take the child to a city hospital and place him under another doctor's care, stating that the trouble was a fractured skull.

We knew then that we must decide for the hospital or for Christian Science. On our way to the city, where we could have our choice of treatment, we decided to have Christian Science practitioner, but she came. Here again we learned of Love's protection; for this practitioner had intended to take a car to the farther side of the town, possibly to be gone for the night, but the thought came to her that it might be wise for her to stop at the hotel first. The clerk of the hotel had been confident the practitioner would be glad to have the child put to bed in her room; and there she found us waiting. She lovingly assured us that "with God all things are possible." We secured a room in the same hotel, and that night the child slept well, whereas before there had been little rest. A Christian Science nurse dressed the wound. Later the stitches all came out naturally, without any material help; and in five days the child was taken home able to play about almost as usual. In a little over two weeks he went to school, perfectly healed, except for a slight mark.
