For five years I had been unable to do any work or eat a proper meal, because of difficulty caused by an internal strain. I was discharged from the army as unfit for further service, and was never without doctor or herbalist until I came into Christian Science. The doctors had all told me I should never eat another proper meal or do another day's work, and that I could be kept alive only by the strictest hygiene and diet.

I was in bed with influenza when a loving friend brought me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I opened the book and read these words on page 1 : "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God." Farther on, I learned that God is the only cause and creator. I decided immediately I had found what I had been missing all my life. With the loving help of a practitioner I was instantaneously healed. I take this opportunity of expressing how very grateful I am for the loving thoughts given to me.

It was Sunday evening when Science and Health was brought to me. The day following I got up and dressed and went out, something which seemed foolish to my wife; but I just held to the thought that as God is the only cause and creator, He would take care of me. I continued to go out each day. I arranged for a practitioner to call; and from each day. I arranged for a practitioner to call; and from that time to this I have never been detained indoors a single day through any illness. The day following the visit of this practitioner saw the destruction of all my medicine, both for myself and my cattle; and it was no small quantity. Since then I have had no further need for it. I have relied on nothing but this wonderful truth, and have overcome many phases of error in my cattle through the little understanding I have gained. I have been healed of the use of tobacco, the use of bad language, and a liking for gambling. If we will only leave ourselves in His care we shall be freed from the "law of sin and death."
