Christian Science came to me at a time when I was ready...

Christian Science came to me at a time when I was ready to receive and prove the fact that "we live, and move, and have our being" in the infinite God. During the four years previous to the time I decided to rely on God, as taught in Christian Science, I suffered from continuous uterine hemorrhage. This physical condition carried with it various other ills under the name of weakness, irregularity of heart action, and shortness of breath. It also seemed necessary for me to wear a material support, from which medical doctors, both here and in the city of Buffalo, New York, could give me only temporary relief. After a few treatments in Christian Science, the material support was removed, as the practitioner explained to me that God is Life; and Mrs. Eddy says, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 376), that "blood never gave life and can never take it away,—that Life is Spirit, and that there is more life and immortality in one good motive and act than in all the blood, which ever flowed through mortal veins and simulated a corporeal sense of life."

This event took place over fourteen years ago. The other physical ills disappeared as I learned to "stand porter at the door of thought" (Science and Health, p. 392). Of course, I am grateful for the physical healing; but that joy fades away into deeper gratitude for a clearer understanding of God and man's relation to Him. This understanding has come about by a close study of the Bible and Science and Health, in connection with the Christian Science Quarterly.
