Two years ago I had a sudden attack of the grippe. Being an official, I had to furnish the authorities with a certificate; and in order to obtain this we called in a doctor. He diagnosed the case as severe pneumonia, and prescribed various kinds of medicine. I did not take any of it; but requested my wife to ask a Christian Science practitioner, whom we knew, for help, which was at once lovingly given. As a member of the sick benefit club I could not prevent the doctor from calling every day, observing or examining me and prescribing new medicine, which again I did not take.

The battle which was fought at my bedside must have been a hard one, for the fever did not quickly abate. After ten days, Truth was victorious, and I awoke from the deep delirious condition. I was now able to listen to and lay hold of the scientific declarations of the faithful practitioner. The fever disappeared entirely; and soon the pain in the chest also left. I was very weak and had lost my memory. The work in Christian Science was continued steadfastly. To my joy, my memory soon returned, and grew better every day. Through the conversations about Christian Science and the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was entirely healed in four weeks, and could start on my leave into the country.

In these days of trial we learned to see clearly where real, never failing help is to be found; and for the first time I experienced the healing power of Christian Science. Since then I have never suffered again from colds. Before knowing of Christian Science, I was twice at a sanitarium for consumptives, and was very sensitive to colds. I thank God with all my heart for this healing, and also the loving practitioner, who visited me so often and showed me the right path. Only recently have I been able to grasp the magnitude of the truth revealed to us by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy; only recently has my gratitude become genuine.
