It is with an extreme sense of joy and gratitude that I testify to what Christian Science has done for me. When quite a small child I had a severe fall; and about a year later a condition of double curvature of the spine and tuberculosis of the vertebrae developed. Gradually, one limb became an inch and a half shorter than the other. I suffered between four and five years, under the constant and loving care of two eminent physicians. I was confined to my bed for a year and a half; and for six months, never turned from side to side without assistance. I had undergone three operations, and had worn two plaster of Paris jackets.
About that time, while caring for me, my mother's health failed; and she was very wonderfully healed in Christian Science. We then turned to it for help for me. I was wearing a heavy steel brace, and had been told that I should have to wear it for an indefinite time. I then developed a case of measles, and called upon a Christian Science practitioner for help. While treating me for that, she helped me to know that I did not have to depend on the brace for support; for, as a child of God, I could stand upright, and God was my only source of strength. I commenced taking the brace off for a little while at a time; and within one week it was discarded forever.
A few years later I had to undergo a severe physical examination to complete a course of study. The two physicians who had attended me during my illness were asked to make the examination. They had said that I would be delicate, and would have to be very careful, all the rest of my life. They had also declared that there would always be a protrusion where the two vertebrae were diseased. Greatly to their amazement, they found me perfectly well and straight, without the slightest deformity. They could not find even the scars where the operation had been performed, which marks they had expected would always remain. They pronounced me in a perfect physical condition, from head to foot. One of these physicians made the remark to a friend that it was something far beyond their power which had healed me. To-day it is my privilege to lead a very active, busy life; and I never experience the slightest sense of fatigue in my back.
