In discussing Christian Science or divine metaphysics, it should not offend any to take the accepted definitions of these words as given in the dictionaries. One gives the following: "Metaphysics, the laws of being. Hence: The scientific knowledge of mental phenomena; mental philosophy; science; accumulated and established knowledge." Another: "Metaphysics,—a science that is above or transcends physics. ... Absolute science, knowledge of things in themselves." Comparative science, so called, is not and cannot be absolute Science, as there can be no degrees in absolute or positive Truth. As Science is "established knowledge" and "absolute," it must be knowledge of absolute being. As matter and the theories about matter are constantly changing, matter cannot come within the province of absolute Science. Metaphysics, or the Science of the divine Mind, God, who, as the Scriptures tell us, is the same yesterday, to-day, and forever, can be the only real Science.
Civil law does not recognize individual standards of right and wrong, but instead judges by its own accepted standard. Jesus proved God's standard to be far beyond that of so-called mortal mind. When the young man addressed him, "good Master," at once our Master rebuked the young man's belief in more than one good, when he said, "Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God." Jesus was too correct in his thinking to acknowledge any but the one source of good. He was daily demonstrating the one universal cause, absolute good, God, the only power and Truth. The same is true about honesty, which is a divine attribute.
The Christian Scientist prays that he may discern God's idea on every subject; and he has proved that as he thinks from God's viewpoint, his thinking is most "effectual," "full of meaning," and meets his every need. It is also true that it is impossible to obtain this viewpoint while holding to an opposite one.
