One of the blessings given us by our revered Leader,...

One of the blessings given us by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, is the privilege of testifying to the healing power of Christian Science, when properly applied, in and under all circumstances. This we can do either by the spoken word in our Wednesday evening testimony meetings, or through our periodicals.

I was healed of the tobacco habit at the first Wednesday evening meeting I ever attended. That was nine years ago. I have never smoked, or had any desire to smoke since, with the exception of twice about seven years ago. In an extreme mood of loneliness I sought comfort in a cigar, but was disgusted with the first taste; and again, a few months later, mortal mind tried to assert itself again. I went out and bought some cigars, tried to smoke, but could not; at which time I learned a lot about true humility, Since then I have never had any desire to smoke, although I have been through many trying experiences.

Other benefits include the healing of a badly fractured forearm, in two weeks' time. The surgeon who set the arm said it would be in splints at least six weeks, and it would be months before I could do many things with it. On another occasion part of a large bearing of an engine fell on my foot, which swelled until I was obliged to remove my shoe to prevent its bursting. Meanwhile I was taunted by a fellow-workman to prove Christian Science. Although the pain seemed unbearable, I was able to love him through it all, without any thought of resentment; and this was quite a demonstration in itself for me. I was able to get to a telephone and call for help, and was healed in less than an hour. All the swelling and pain having disappeared, I was able to continue my work.
