The Lectures

MUSKOGEE, OKLA. (First Church).—Introducing John C. Lathrop, a Christian Science lecturer, to his audience, Robert I. Blakeney made the following remarks:—

The first tenet of the Christian Science faith, as given in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 497), is, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." This religion is founded wholly on the Scriptures, and especially on the words and works of the lowly Nazarene. Christian Scientists acknowledge Jesus as the Way-shower, and strive to emulate him in his example. During his sojourn in the flesh he cast out evil, healed the sick and sinning, and left these words for our guidance: "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." This declaration is as true to-day as it was centuries ago. God's work is infinite. It is for all time; and Christian Science is to-day bringing to the attention of the world demonstrations of God's power to heal all evil,—moral, mental, or physical.

For years I was in bondage, an unwilling subject to the excessive use of liquors; and years of indulgence brought me to a mental and physical state that was terrible. I was unhappy, miserable, and discontented, and brought only grief to those about me. Oh, how I longed for surcease from that awful habit that grips one like a vice! But all to no avail, until Christian Science found me and brought me from the depths. I shall never cease to be grateful for this wonderful healing. Christian Science did that for me; and it is daily bringing happiness to thousands who have accepted this truth.
