The Lectures

CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA (First Church).—Introducing Dr. Walton Hubbard, a Christian Science lecturer, to his audience, Mrs. Pearl S. Miller said in part:—

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea the angels sang, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." Jesus was to demonstrate the way. He was to be the Way-shower for all humanity, for you and for me, in the pathway that leads to peace, to God. In Job it is said, "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee;" and Paul later told us how this peace is to be attained. He said, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." Does it not then follow that as we acquaint ourselves with this Mind, learn its laws, accept and apply them, we too will experience the promised peace? John so beautifully expresses this in his Revelation, when he says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."

Just here I should like to bear my testimony to the truth of these verses of Scripture. Until about twelve years ago, for many years I had been a sufferer from certain physical conditions, which were treated by physicians of various schools, but without success. During this time I was most earnestly seeking a religion. I had become discontented with my church home. Eventually Christian Science was presented to me by a friend in the ministry. I procured a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which I read with great interest, for the first words I found there were these: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Pref., p. vii). As I continued to read I found my search for a religion had ended. I had found an explanation of God as Love, omnipresent and omnipotent, and man as His image and likeness. And while I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing, it soon followed.
