It is recorded in Luke's gospel that when the disciples of John were sent to Jesus to ask him if he were the Christ, he answered by saying, "Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached."

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on page 138, the author states: "Jesus established in the Christian era the precedent for all Christianity, theology, and healing. Christians are under as direct orders now, as they were then, to be Christlike, to possess the Christ-spirit, to follow the Christ-example, and to heal the sick as well as the sinning." Christian Science is teaching its students how to heal the sick and sinning as did Christ Jesus; therefore, it cannot be a counterfeit, if the standard established by Jesus is accepted; for he coupled healing the sick and sinning with preaching the gospel. Christian Scientists subscribe to his standard, and are proving that Christian Science heals both sin and disease. That which brings forth good fruit cannot be the work of the devil; for Jesus said, "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit." The well-authenticated testimonies appearing in the Christian Science periodicals and those given at the Wednesday evening testimony meetings furnish the proof that Christian Science saves from sin, disease, and death. Any honest, sincere seeker can prove for himself that Christian Science is the religion taught and practiced by Jesus; because through the understanding of its teachings he will be enabled to do the works which Jesus said would follow "them that believe."
