It is with deep gratitude that I bear testimony to some of the many blessings Christian Science has brought to me. Some years before becoming interested in it I had been compelled to give up my profession as musician on account of severe spinal trouble, for which I had daily physical treatment for two years. I seemed to have very little strength, and spent the six subsequent years in a state of semi-invalidism. There was great fear of playing my instrument, the 'cello, and I despaired of ever being able to take it up again. Knowing it would be necessary for me to earn my own living, I got into a bad mental state with worry, and was on the verge of a breakdown. In addition to all this, there was great unhappiness in our home, a condition which had existed for years, and which seemed often almost unbearable.

When things were at their blackest, Christian Science came to me through a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, borrowed from a public library. I had heard of this book, and had for years carried about an unreasoning prejudice against it. I took it from the library with no other idea than to criticize and ridicule it. I had not read two pages, however, before I realized that Christian Science was real religion, somthing for which I had long been searching. During that first eager reading of the book, several minor ailments were healed,—internal chills, weak eyes, and a feeling of faintness, which had that year seemed almost continuous. The book was returned; and as I did not know where I could obtain another copy, it was forgotten till six months later, when I was again getting into a bad mental state. Then it suddenly came to my thought; and I wrote to a friend, who I knew was a Christian Scientist, and asked her to send me a copy.

Study was then taken up seriously. A Christian Science Society in the neighborhood was found; and I soon had the kind help of Scientist friends, with the result that physical exercises and adherence to hygiene were dropped, fear was to a great extent overcome, strength came, and gradually ways and means of supply and usefulness opened out.
