The Lectures

Colorado Springs, Colo. (First Church).—Introducing Ezra W. Palmer, a Christian Science lecturer, to his audience, Miss Mabel Alberta Spicer said in part:—

Christian Science universally understood and practiced would establish on earth the kingdom of heaven,—that is to say, the reign of righteousness. It would end wars, right differences between capital and labor, meet financial problems, disentangle family complications, and eradicate disease. But to do this it must be practiced, not merely believed, for it is a religion of deed, not creed. This would mean that men must think righteously, justly, lovingly; act righteously, justly, lovingly; live righteously, justly, lovingly.

The Christian Science movement is founded on the works of Jesus as well as his words. Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, swept away the mass of deadening dogma and creed that had accumulated during the centuries, and restored to mankind Christianity in its original simplicity, vitality, sweetness, tenderness, and helpfulness. She reestablished Christian healing. While it is true that the majority of those who come to Christian Science come seeking physical relief, it is equally true that the benefactions of Christian Science are as varied and manifold as are the needs of mankind. I have myself witnessed and experienced physical healing and many other benefits from the application of Christian Science, but my great need was for an understandable, practical religion. Just such a religion has Christian Science been to me through some twenty years. I have found it altogether satisfying.
