Christian Science is not a form of autosuggestion, or any other form of hypnotism or mesmerism, or any of the numerous aliases used for this form of error. Suggestion of no kind enters into the practice of Christian Science. As a matter of fact we are freed from so-called human mind suggestions in proportion to our understanding of the great truth that all real thought emanates from the one Mind, God, and is reflected by spiritual man, God's image and likeness. The human or carnal mentality is the fleshly mind, the opposite of that which is spiritual and good, and which Paul names "the old man," and which he also says must be "put off." In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 185), under the marginal heading, "A so-called mindcure," Mrs. Eddy writes, "Such theories have no relationship to Christian Science, which rests on the conception of God as the only Life, substance, and intelligence, and excludes the human mind as spiritual factor in the healing work."

In Christian Science there are practitioners, those who give their time to the healing of sin and sickness; but one of the main objects of a practitioner is to help the patient to understand the divine Principle of man's being, and to know that as he honestly and understandingly applies the rules laid down in Science and Health, he will come into health, happiness, peace, — all good. Founded as it is on the one divine infinite Principle of all real being, the scope, the opportunity, and the work of the Christian Scientist is limitless. On page 258 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says, "God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis."
