Since early manhood I had been a sufferer from stomach...
Since early manhood I had been a sufferer from stomach trouble, also from backache and lumbago. These later became chronic and developed into other ailments, which put me into a very bad condition, not only physically, but mentally as well. I tried different physicians, and each one seemed to diagnose the case differently.
After having failed to get relief in my home town I went to other places to noted specialists, and also had three minor operations performed; but the benefits were only temporary. One day, as I was in a city looking for further relief, I met a friend, and he said he could recommend Christian Science. He told me of its teachings and of his experiences; but it did not appeal to me, so I continued with material remedies. The good seed had, however, been sown. The thought of Christian Science clung to me, and about six months later, not having had satisfactory results from other methods, I decided to give Christian Science a trial. I therefore looked up a practitioner, who gave me treatment. Before I left his office, things began to brighten, and I knew I had found the truth. The practitioner invited me to stay and attend the Wednesday evening testimony meeting. This invitation was gladly accepted; and such a peaceful, harmonious meeting I had never attended before. The testimonies appealed to me, and I was greatly benefited.
I continued to improve for some time; but as I lived too far away from any Christian Science church to attend the meetings, I made the mistake of trying to put "new wine into old bottles." I went back to material remedies and also had chiropractic and osteopathic treatments, but without any lasting results. I again became discouraged with material remedies, and once more took up Christian Science. I had treatment from different practitioners at different times, and did considerable mental work myself. The fight was a long and strenuous one, but Truth finally won; and I wish to say to any whose healing seems slow not to give up, as Truth is bound to come out victorious, and the goal is certainly worth the effort.
