The reasons stated by your correspondent of Chicago in...

Boston (Mass.) Transcript

The reasons stated by your correspondent of Chicago in your paper, as to why he is not a Christian Scientist, do not include the main reason. The main reason is that his attitude toward Christian Science is quite unfair. He will neither adopt Christian Science nor get its benefits until he changes his attitude.

His statement that "Christian Science denies the perfection of Christ's teachings" is sheer fiction. The fact that Mrs. Eddy's writings are based on the teachings of Christ Jesus, and accept them completely, is evident to all fair-minded readers. As for the Christian Science church, it was organized and it exists "to commemorate the word and works of our Master," and to "reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Church Manual, p. 17).

Instead of saying that "Christian Science repudiates the incarnation," the writer should have said either that he does not know what Christian Science teaches on this subject, or that it presents some other view than his. As Mrs. Eddy has written of the incarnation in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 77), it means, "God made manifest through man."
