Eighteen years ago I turned to Christian Science for...
Eighteen years ago I turned to Christian Science for physical and mental healing. I knew practically nothing of Christian Science either as a means of healing or as a religion. I had always been considered somewhat delicate; and for five or six years before taking up Christian Science I was a semi-invalid, spending much of my time in bed, under a doctor's care constantly, taking the strongest kinds of medicines; and I was also very dependent upon stimulants, whiskey having been recommended by physicians for a lung trouble; but a time came when neither faith in physicians nor medicine did me any good.
I then turned to the great Physician. I at once left the old church of which I had been a member for many years and attended regularly the Christian Science services, had Christian Science treatment, and studied the Bible, together with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, many hours each day. From the first I felt the spiritual uplift, and the healing truth was at once manifested in improved physical and mental conditions; and in a short time I was a well woman. I gave up all medicine and material remedies, and during all these years have never returned to the old remedies in any form. Whenever any physical inharmony has been manifested, by the application of Christian Science—either through my own study and understanding or the help of a Christian Science practitioner—the difficulty has soon been met, and I have been healed.
One healing which comes to me to relate was a case of poisoning. I awakened in the night with pain so acute that I jumped from bed and walked the floor in agony for some moments. I then took Science and Health and read and worked mentally for some time, until I fell asleep. When I awoke in the morning I felt perfectly well, but almost immediately an eruption of a virulent nature appeared all over my body. This condition lasted through Friday and until late on Saturday afternoon. I was a reader at our Christian Science services at the time, and hoped to be at my post on Sunday morning. Late on Saturday afternoon I went over the Lesson-Sermon again; and as I was studying the last section I realized that I was healed, and saw the manifestation on my arms disappear into its native nothingness.
