The quoted article in your columns which purports to give a "natural explanation" of reported cures wrought by a certain revivalist greatly errs in classifying Christian Science with faith healing and systems grouped under head of New Thought or mental healing. Because, in other respects, the article gives evidence of careful thought and intelligent observation, the need for correcting this one error is greater and more apparent.

One of the leading points of difference between Christian Science and all other methods of healing is that in Christian Science the healing effects are due, not to the action of the human mind or will, but rather and solely to the understood presence, power, and activity of the divine Mind, God. The materially minded in the first century ascribed Christ Jesus' healing to mesmerism, or, as they termed it, Beelzebub, the prince of devils; but of course such a thought is deemed blasphemous by Christian to-day. People now do or should recognize that Jesus worked in accordance with and in fulfillment of God's will or law, and that he possessed such an exact, true, or scientific knowledge of spiritual law that he was able to prove God's omnipotence by overcoming sin, sickness, and all phases of discord and limitation. On page 344 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy, in writing of this, says, "There are various methods of treating disease, which are not included in thecommonly accepted systems; but there is only one which should be presented to the whole world, and that is the Christian Science which Jesus preached and practised and left to us as his rich legacy."

Those who have studied Christian Science and gained sufficient understanding thereof to prove its precepts by demonstration, are convinced that the scientific Christian knowledge which was taught and proved by Jesus is to-day available to all in Christian Science; and they further know that to ascribe Christian Science healing to the human mind or will is more than a mistake, in that the credit for all the good accomplished by Christian Science is due to God alone. Christian Science does not operate upon, through, or with human emotionalism, but makes its appeal to reason. It should be further stated that one can apply Christian Science only as the human will is made subordinate to the divine, as was so wonderfully exemplified in the life and work of that most scientific of all Christian Christ Jesus.
