I have been wonderfully blessed in Christian Science; and...
I have been wonderfully blessed in Christian Science; and my heart goes out in thankfulness to the Giver of all good for the innumerable blessings that have been showered upon me, and for the great love manifested to me through His dear children. Christian Science has indeed been to me a "rock in a weary land," and a shelter in time of storm. It has helped me in countless ways. Stomach trouble, sore throat, influenza, severe headaches, neuralgia, and many other ailments have disappeared under the blaze of Truth. It has also helped me to overcome fear; and, whereas I was a nervous, fearful individual, I now know that "the Lord God omnipotent reigneth," and that if we truly rely on Him there shall no evil befall us, neither shall any plague come nigh our dwelling.
Some time ago I was engaged in some household work, when a heavy pole fell and struck me full in the eye. For a moment I was completely stunned, and felt I was losing consciousness. Then the thought flashed before me: "It is nothing. God is my life." I tried to realize the truth, but could hardly collect my thoughts, the pain was so great. I still clung to the truth, however, and after a time the pain partly subsided. I opened the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, at the Glossary (p. 586), and found the definition of eyes, "Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." A great sense of peace and quietness came over me, and I realized that eyes, being spiritual, could neither be hurt nor destroyed.
I did not happen to be near any Christian Scientists at the time, but wired to a practitioner for help and treatment was commenced immediately. I slept well all night and in the morning was able to open my eye. The pain had in a great measure gone, but treatment was continued and by the next day my eye was completely healed. There was no disfiguration and to me this was great reason for thankfulness, especially as at the time I was living with people who were very critical of Christian Science. At another time I ran a wire right through my finger; and again the power of the Word was there to heal and in a few hours my finger was all right.
