Your correspondent who has written to your paper criticizing Christian Science says: "Christian Scientist do not pray. A visit to any of their services will establish this." The fact is, that at every Christian Science service the congregation engages in silent prayer, followed by the audible repetition of the Lord's Prayer. A visitor at those services could hardly fail to note this fact. Christian Scientists are thus obeying the injunction of Christ Jesus, who, in giving the Lord's Prayer for our use, said, "After this manner therefore pray ye." Moreover, they are daily seeking to understand better and demonstrate more fully its practical spiritual meaning and the healing power that goes with it. Christian Science emphasizes the value of silent prayer, and enables its adherents to put into daily practice the precept of the Apostle Paul, "Pray without ceasing."

Material things or fleshly so-called pleasures had no place in the life of the Master. Although he was in the world, he was not of it. Christian Science teaches that the human Jesus appeared in the flesh. Christian Science teaches that Christ Jesus was the mediator, or Way-shower, between God and men. He taught mortals how to escape from bondage to the flesh by demonstrating the real man's sonship with God.

The critic objects to the fact that Christian Science teaches that God is synonymous with good. The phrase "God, good," is, as he indicates, quite frequently used in Christian Science. This point is, moreover, one of great importance to human well-being. Thinking people generally recognize to-day, more clearly than ever before, that, in the struggle between good and evil, even on the human plane, good is really supreme. The understanding of God as omnipotent, supreme, and ever present good makes God practically available in overcoming evil. The mistaken belief that God is a manlike being seated on a distant throne is, fortunately for humanity, fast fading out. The true idea of God as ever present good, or divine Love, is being enthroned. Christian Scientists are grateful for the benefits derived from the teaching of Christian Science that God is ever present good. They are glad, too, to see that many others are recognizing this important truth, and being benefited by it.
