In view of the many beautiful demonstrations that have come to me in the past nineteen years, I feel that I have been negligent and perhaps disobedient in not testifying to them before.
A few months after I commenced the study of Christian Science in earnest, I was taken with the grippe. The case became so severe that I saw something had to be done immediately, so I took my books, the Bible, and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and sat for a couple of hours trying to realize the truth of what I was reading, namely, that man made in the image and likeness of God could never be separated from God and therefore could not be sick; that sickness was a false claim, a mistake that must needs be corrected; that man is the idea of God, and God's idea is not sickly. After thinking along these lines for some time I went to bed without any sense of fear as to the result of leaving the case with God. About two o'clock I awoke in a state of perspiration, and the next morning went to business as usual. In a day or two I was as well as ever. Let me say here that the desire for smoking was met at the same time. This habit I had no intention of giving up, but it gave me up. This occurred eighteen years ago and I have never had the least desire to smoke since.
A severe case of eczema was the next error to be overcome and it was several weeks before I could persuade myself to do without lotions, but I am thankful to say it was finally met. Among other errors that have been overcome are severe headaches, pleurisy, ptomaine poisoning, fallen arches, a tendency to take cold easily, and numerous other minor ailments, some through my own understanding, and others with the aid of a practitioner. I also wish to express my gratitude for the privilege I have had of being usher, librarian, and Reader, also for the ability to help others in getting started in the right path. I am also grateful for class instruction and for the periodicals.
