With a heart full of thankfulness for many blessings I...
With a heart full of thankfulness for many blessings I send this testimony. Two and a half years ago Christian Science was brought to my notice by a dear friend, who lent me her copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I was then a most discouraged and unhappy woman, not from ill health, but from mental worry owing to the apparent loss of all that had formerly seemed essential to my life and its happiness. I had for years been indifferent to religion, though brought up by deeply religious parents in a denominational faith. I had always been interested in reading any books on religion, but had never derived any conviction or comfort from them. Without any idea of experiencing a change in my mental condition I started to read Science and Health, but after a short time, while I was still reading the first chapter, on Prayer, and honestly trying to apply its teaching, I found that, almost imperceptibly, my whole outlook was brightening. My duty in life seemed to lie plainly before me, and with the realization of that, came wonderful peace and happiness. With increased opportunity for study, and, above all, the regular reading of the Bible-Lessons, I find the beautiful teachings of Christian Science unfolding to me, and I am learning to make the Bible my guide for right living.
Many demonstrations have added to my happiness. Several minor ailments have been overcome, and a great sense of fear and loneliness has disappeared. I should like to add here that the grateful testimony of a fellow student from a Mexican farm, which appeared some months back in a Sentinel, encouraged me to send this. Last year I was able to demonstrate over seasickness in going to and returning from England. Health and happiness bespeak my gratitude to God for His infinite blessings, to our inspired Leader for her unselfish life and for her writings, and to the Christian Science Publishing Society for the periodicals, including the Quarterly, which enable isolated students like myself to keep in touch with the church service and the vast Christian Science movement.—(Mrs.)Beryl Rosa Ware, Olympia, Brazil, South America.
