Mrs. Eddy, in her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,"...

Mrs. Eddy, in her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," on page 135 defines Christianity thus: "Christianity as Jesus taught it was not a creed, nor a system of ceremonies, nor a special gift from a ritualistic Jehovah; but it was the demonstration of divine Love casting out error and healing the sick, not merely in the name of Christ, or Truth, but in demonstration of Truth, as must be the case in the cycles of divine light."

It is difficult to understand how any one who has studied the Bible can think it is unscriptural to heal the sick by spiritual means only. The gospels teem with instances of healing accomplished both by Jesus and his disciples by these means; and Jesus promised that "these signs shall follow them that believe," and, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."

It is playing fast and loose with the Scriptures to accept that part which commands Christians to preach the gospel as applying to the present day, and to reject that part which commands to heal the sick.
