For many months the Christian Science Sentinel has...
For many months the Christian Science Sentinel has been such a comfort to me, and a weekly inspirer of hope, that I should like to give my first testimony through its columns. For two years I was a great sufferer from acute and chronic indigestion, not being able to eat or sleep. After treating me for a year, without success, our family physician advised me to consult a specialist for stomach trouble, which I did, going to the hospital, having X-ray photographs taken, and resorting to the stomach pump, but with no better result. Finding there was no improvement in my condition, I determined to give up medicine and try what Christian Science could do for me, so I began to read Science and Health, and by being obedient to Mrs. Eddy's recommendation, "In seeking a cure for dyspepsia consult matter not at all, and eat what is set before you, 'asking no question for conscience sake'" (Science and Health, p. 222), I overcame the fear of food and began to improve at once, soon gaining about thirty pounds. Reading one of the testimonies in the Sentinel, I decided to write to the one who could make such a clear statement of her delivery from bondage; and as I had suffered from constipation for fifteen years, I wrote to her for treatment, which was most lovingly given, and in a short time my bowels became normal, and I know that the condition was healed owing to her clearer understanding, as I could not help myself.
I am most grateful for these two demonstrations, showing me the power of Truth to reconstruct the body; and still more for the knowledge that I have gained through Christian Science of God as Love. The truth about God's spiritual creation has been a great revelation to me. To know that God made all, and saw that it was good, has lifted a great weight from my consciousness, for now I have hope of being freed from every false claim and belief, knowing as I do that God did not make them, for He is too pure to behold iniquity.—(Mrs.) Sarah K. Johnson, Ellicott City, Md.
