Facts
ON page 479 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says, "In the vast forever, in the Science and truth of being, the only facts are Spirit and its innumerable creations." How great a change of outlook is necessary before we are ready to receive and act upon this statement. Facts, to the human being, are those things to which his human senses testify, and undeterred by the fact that he is continually proving these human senses to be unreliable, he accepts their evidence and credulously builds up from that evidence a mass of false opinions about everybody and everything in the universe. He is quite satisfied as to the reality of these false opinions, and just so long as he holds them they block his view of the real facts. All physical ailments, all lack, all sorrow, all sin are the result of a man's mental vision of fact being blocked by false opinion. Remove the false opinion and the true facts will appear,—the facts of health, harmony, abundance, purity, sinlessness, which were obscured.
It is most important to realize that the facts are there all the time, just as the sun is there all the time when we are groping in a fog. Christian Science treatment does not change or alter any fact. It removes the fog of false opinion that prevents us from seeing God's facts in the sunshine of His love. What we need to do for healing is to see from God's point of view, since only from the standpoint of absolute Truth can facts be viewed aright. Consider for a moment the relation of thoughts—ideas—to the mind which forms them. As Mind is, so is its idea. The thoughts of Love are loving—the ideas of the pure truth are pure, the thoughts of vigorous divine intelligence manifest vigor. This then must be the nature of the thoughts, the ideas, in the Mind which is God—absolute, infinite, eternal good. Think of the purity of these ideas, their power, their freedom, their joy in action, the perfection with which they express all that is in the Mind which is Love. True individuality is such an idea. What hinders us from realizing this? Nothing but false opinion of what constitutes a man and a woman, derived from what the material senses tell us. They report weakness, confusion, inability, sickness, lack, et cetera. They make a picture of a self not in the image and likeness of God, good, but in the image and likeness of matter; not under the law of Life, but under the law of death. But what these senses show us are not facts. Only what God knows about man is true. Which point of view are we taking, God's standpoint or that offered us by the material senses?
Let any one honestly strive for the divine point of view. Let him know it to be the true one, order thought and action in accord with this understanding, and he will soon prove for himself that it brings harmonious and eternal facts to light. He will find false opinion dissolving as a mist dissolves, and God's real creation, God's real sons and daughters beginning to appear to him instead of the counterfeit presentments which have been cheating him of love and health and joy.On page 584 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy has written: "The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded. This unfolding is God's day, and 'there shall be no night there.'"
