Several years ago an earnest student of Christian Science...

Several years ago an earnest student of Christian Science awoke my interest in the subject, and this was held for about a year, then seemed to turn into resistance. In the years that followed I was never well, though never sufficiently ill to be caused serious inconvenience. The church in which I had been an active worker had long before ceased to interest me. At this period I turned to the psychic, to the theosophical, to the occult,—to anything hitherto untouched,—but found no satisfaction.

At last an alarming illness attacked me. I crawled back to strength, afraid to eat and afraid not to. After a few months of such fear and lack of physical harmony, I found my thoughts again turning to Christian Science. I unpacked Science and Health, which I had hidden from all eyes,—my own included,—and with the help of an old Quarterly, commenced the study of the Bible from a new standpoint. I remember my happiness in discovering that the Bible glowed with vitality. My first joy in Science and Health came from the comprehension that its teachings must be lived if there is to be understanding. After a year's study I subscribed for the literature. I now have it all and all of Mrs. Eddy's writings and count them with the Bible, which is like a new book to me, as my true library. Through my daily study and constant endeavor to be true to the teachings I so love, I am finding that Christian Science is the most potent physician, the truest friend, and the one reliable guide through perplexities. I am strong and well, for Christian Science prevents as well as heals sickness. A state of physical well-being is indeed a pleasure, but I am happiest over my growing understanding of spiritual reality and the surety that God, Love, governs all.

I cannot enumerate all my joys and blessings in Christian Science, but class instruction cannot go unnamed. I requested membership in The Mother Church and was accepted, and active work as a member of a Christian Science Society soon followed. I deeply appreciate both these memberships. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who allowed neither self-aggrandizement nor self-depreciation to interfere with her work of glorifying God.
