I recently had an experience giving me added assurance...

I recently had an experience giving me added assurance that Christian Science heals every ill and meets every need. While working at shipbuilding I fell into a manhole and broke a rib. I walked several blocks and took a car home, holding firmly to the truth. The rib was set and healed in Science without physical examination or manipulation. From the pain and the force of the impact against unprotected parts, there seemed reason to believe that there might be internal injuries, but save at one dark moment two days after the accident, there was little or no fear. Then we telephoned to Los Angeles to a Christian Science practitioner. Although I could feel the movement of the broken parts and suffered much from moving about, the practitioner justified our course in not seeing a surgeon and she gave absent treatments. Two weeks later I went to work on night shift, healed, and have since continued without pain or inconvenience, even working overtime. This healing was attended by great peace and confidence in God's providence. Not having availed myself of their doctor's services, I was refused compensation for loss of time by the shipyard casualty company, but my compensation for "radical reliance on Truth" (Science and Health, p. 167) was not only in the healing, the receiving of a more suitable position, and better pay, but first in an improved understanding of what constitutes substance, and a spiritual uplift beyond words to tell. The real healing was spiritual; the rest was inevitable but only incidental.

I thank God for Christian Science. My experience since 1908 (I was then on crutches) when a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy fell into my hands, proves to me conclusively that Christian Science is the law of Life; that it is no less than the activity of Christ, Truth, in the twentieth century. A month after receiving the book I was able to walk to my room without my last crutch, the other having been laid aside a few weeks before. I have never had any use for them since, though I have suffered a badly sprained ankle, with great discoloration and swelling. Though the discoloration was several days in leaving, the sprain was healed through Science in a night.—Arthur F. Williams, San Pedro, Calif.

In gratitude and humility I add the following to the above testimony. About ten minutes after my husband arrived home the morning of the accident I received two calls for help. As they were urgent my husband told me that he could treat himself; so I left him in God's care, knowing that "accidents are unknown to God" (Science and Health, p. 424). I am grateful to say that both of those seeking help received it in the treatments given that morning, proving again Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 518), "Blessed is that man who seeth his brother's need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another's good."
