Four years ago I took up the study of Christian Science to learn a better way to live, as I was greatly dissatisfied with the world in general. I turned to it at this particular time because at a Wednesday evening meeting an employer of mine had been instantaneously healed of the liquor habit of long standing, and shortly afterwards of the tobacco habit. The wonderful change I saw in him gave me the desire to become a Christian Scientist.
About three weeks after beginning this study I was taken with a severe attack of tonsillitis, a trouble to which I had been subject from childhood. The physician who was called told me the tonsils would have to be removed, as otherwise I would not be able to go through the winter without contracting rheumatism. I wanted to get away from this and realized that if I intended to continue in Christian Science I must try to live up to its rules or at least put into practice what little I knew. I therefore did not take the doctor's advice, but continued the study of Christian Science more earnestly than ever. It was a severe winter and I was wet through several times but had no more difficulty with my tonsils.
For this healing and the healing of many other discordant conditions I am grateful. What I am most grateful for, however, is the literature that our dear Leader so wonderfully thought out, that all might share in the activities of this great work no matter where they are. Christian Science is surely the Comforter.
