Among the Churches
Current Notes
New York, N. Y.—The new home of Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist, which was built at 522 West 112th Street at a cost of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, was formally opened yesterday [Dec. 21]. This church was started two years ago with eighteen members. To-day it has more than five hundred. Adjoining the church is a new building, which will house the Sunday school and offices of the church.—New York Times.
St. Louis, Mo.—Dedicatory services of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, 4234 Washington Boulevard, will be held to-day [Dec. 21]. This church was organized in 1901. The corner stone of its present edifice was laid in 1910, and the basement was completed in May of that year. Services were held there until the completion of the main auditorium in 1912. The auditorium has a seating capacity of seven hundred and fifty and the Sunday school room will seat three hundred. The church and organ, with the lot, cost approximately ninety thousand dollars.
This is the second Christian Science church to be dedicated in St. Louis this year [1919]. Third Church, on Russell Avenue, near Grand Avenue, built in 1908 at a cost of one hundred thousand dollars, was dedicated last May. First Church, East St. Louis, will be dedicated next Sunday [Dec. 28]. This church was built in 1908 at a cost of about thirty thousand dollars. There are now five Christian Science church edifices in St. Louis and East St. Louis, all of which are dedicated and have an aggregate valuation of more than five hundred thousand dollars. Sixth Church, now holding services in Mount Moriah Masonic Hall, Garrison and Natural Bridge Avenues, has paid for a lot and expects to commence building in the near future.
