I have experienced so much joy and help from reading...
I have experienced so much joy and help from reading the testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel that I, too, would bear witness to the glorious freedom which Christian Science brings. When this Science was first presented to me I was in a desperate condition. I had not quite finished school when disease and death began to assault our family life, and ten years later I was left without home or health, and with very little money, so that the thought of ending it all was frequently with me. In my great need a copy of Der Herold der Christian Science was given me and I read it thoughtfully. I did not believe in the physical healing but it seemed to me that Christian Science might take away despair, and so it did—despair disappeared and hope came again.
Then I began to correspond with a practitioner, but at that time did not know enough English to understand the textbook and I got neither healing nor apprehension, though I did get much love and encouragement. Having no opportunity to learn English I let the subject drop for three years, although I subscribed for the Herold and occasionally a friend sent me other Christian Science literature and encouraged me to go on. After my marriage we established a home in Petrograd, Russia, and there I had time to study English and the Lesson-Sermons. Then I began to understand the truth and to progress. Thoughts of sickness, poverty, and limitation were gradually replaced by better ones. I subscribed to our periodicals, and through my reading of the Science literature overcame chronic catarrh of years' standing, also melancholy, an internal trouble which an operation could not heal, and sick headaches, from which I had suffered since childhood.
I am happy to say that I have had class instruction and found it a great help, for it took away fear and planted my feet firmly on the rock. I am thankful to our friends in Petrograd for many a word of truth and inspiration; thankful, too, that I could attend the services and testimony meetings there and help in the reading room. I am a living witness to the truth of Christian Science, for all that I am and have I owe to divine Principle. The blessings which I have received from this infinite source are, indeed, countless. The basis of my life and thought has been wholly changed, and with the advance of my spiritual apprehension it is a joy to live. The greatest blessing I find is knowing how to think right. I am deeply thankful to God for giving this message to Mrs. Eddy, and rejoice that she was faithful enough to give it to the world.—Mrs. Hedwig Rosin, Brooklyn, N. Y.
