When Christian Science was first presented to me, I was...

When Christian Science was first presented to me, I was in a most deplorable condition both mentally and physically. Many years of suffering from weak eyes had developed into almost total blindness. In less than a week this condition was entirely changed. The glasses I had worn for twelve years were discarded, and with them went all the pain and discomfort I had so long endured. Eight years have passed since then. My business activities have increased and the eyes have been put to most trying tests, even to writing and transcribing shorthand notes on a fast train from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast. The four days of this trip were devoted to secretarial work and the greater part of the nights to reading.

Closely following my first experience came the liberation from so-called inherited kidney trouble and its ills. This healing took place at a Christian Science lecture. Before knowing of Christian Science I depended on a tonic or stimulant to carry me through the day. Each day my work required more of an effort, and my business record showed a marked average in favor of absence from duty on account of ill health and fatigue. To-day I depend on the study and application of Christian Science, and the day finds me ready to begin, better prepared for all duties, and as fresh and happy at the completion of the day's work as when I leave my home in the morning.

While this physical regeneration naturally calls forth an expression of gratitude, it is with rejoicing and praise I acknowledge the wonderful adjustment that is daily taking place in my affairs. As a business woman I consider my knowledge of Christian Science my most valuable asset. Most perplexing and distressing moments have been turned into occasions of gladness, and I am finding myself master rather than victim of every untoward circumstance. The Bible is no longer a bundle of contradictions, leaving me in confusion and doubt, but has become an enlightening guide. The publications of The Christian Science Publishing Society, each a beacon directing me alone the highway of right activity, and the church services awakening me to a nobler and purer love for mankind, are constantly increasing my debt of gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for her unselfish, patient, and loving work.
