I am glad to testify to the redemptive power realized...

I am glad to testify to the redemptive power realized through Christian Science. For fifteen years I staggered over the streets of Chicago a helpless drunkard. I could not get enough drink and was a wreck physically and financially. The doctor said if I did not stop drinking I would die. I told my family I was a man and would prove it by refraining from strong drink; so I started on soft drinks to avoid the habit. Following this course for weeks I began to get very weak. My eyes were sunken, my steps were feeble, and one day my best friend said to me, "You look so bad I fear for you; you had better drink some." I took the advice and began drinking again. Then I met a man who advised me to go to a Christian Science practitioner; so I went and took several treatments. Beer turned bitter to my taste and became so obnoxious that all desire left me, and for eight years I have not tasted or desired to taste liquor of any kind. As a veteran of the Civil War I drew a pension from the Government on account of rheumatism, asthma, and other ailments. I have been cured of all these afflictions through Christian Science and receive the pension only on age now.

Thanks to God and to Mrs. Eddy for the truth that has made me free from these fetters of bondage. Christian Science has made me a happy, joyous man.
