In October, 1912, I first experienced the healing power of Truth as taught in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. From infancy I had never been strong and was considered a weakling by doctors. I suffered considerably from headache, neuralgia, biliousness, nervousness, and other ailments. At this time I was in a very nervous condition, as I had not been well for months and material remedies gave me no relief. I was feeling despondent and took no interest in anything. My father was studying Christian Science, and at last I went to see a practitioner. From the first treatment I felt a change, for I left his office freed of a headache from which I had suffered for weeks. In ten days I was like a new being. The spiritual uplift was wonderful; the sense of peace and joy that filled my consciousness at that time will never be forgotten, and with it the physical troubles left me.

I had been brought up in an orthodox church and had always loved the Bible, but did not understand all I read. I began to read the Scriptures, and they were illumined when I saw that the promises God gave us could be applied at the present time, and I received much comfort from them. Many other things have been overcome to a great extent, such as envy, pride, resentment, also an irritable temper. Colds, influenza, muscular rheumatism, weakness of the eyes, have melted into their native nothingness with the application of this wonderful truth. During the past twelve months I have had much more to be grateful for. While traveling from Australia to New Zealand seasickness was overcome in a few hours, when I realized the truth of the statement, "My presence shall go with thee." I was able to dress and go to the saloon and enjoy a hearty meal, while others in the same cabin did not leave their berths for two days. The sense of separation from my home and loved ones has been entirely overcome. I never feel lonely, and although I have been as a stranger in a strange city, some channel of love has always opened up in which I have found a friend in times of special need.

I have yet much to achieve, but am grateful for the little understanding that has come to me through the study of our textbook. In proportion as I put it into practice in daily life I am able to let my light shine and so help others. For the reading rooms I am greatly indebted too; I have found peace and quietness in them. The periodicals and Mrs. Eddy's writings have been much comfort in times of clouds and darkness. For the practitioners and friends in Melbourne who have lovingly helped me when I needed it I am very grateful. To God and Christ Jesus the Way-shower my heart goes out with gratitude and unspeakable joy; and for having found the truth that when rightly applied has never failed to help me in solving my problems, I am very grateful.
