"Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies." The foregoing passage, found on page 162 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, has indeed been brought home to me in the fullness of its meaning. While knowing scarcely anything of the teachings of this Science, I was healed of an eye trouble which had at times greatly impeded my progress in school. This healing was accomplished without any assistance from a practitioner, and was due to simple faith, which had yet to develop into understanding.
Prior to becoming interested in Christian Science, I had known nothing but chaos, melancholy, and unrest for years, but with the study of this teaching I soon became conscious that the reign of peace was dawning. More than once did the argument of not remembering what I read assail me, but experience proved that divine Love was ever present to meet any demand. After being in the woods one day I suddenly noticed that both of my arms were "broken out" quite heavily. I had often heard of poison oak, but it had always seemed so unreasonable to contemplate the possibility of suffering from the joyous companionship of flowers and trees. Almost simultaneously with the thought of poison and the likelihood of its spreading came the still, small voice assuring me that disease is without intelligence. All development in the wrong direction ceased, and in a day or two there was no evidence of the trouble.
Christian Science has freed me from belief in the power of evil, and with growth in the knowledge that God, good, is the only power, I am beginning to learn that nothing but good can be expressed by the children of God. This knowledge has utterly destroyed the deep-rooted sense of human condemnation that has ever been attached to persons who have, as we thought, been the authors of injustice. I have had abundant proof of the goodness of God, and am beginning to realize that, as our Leader says (Science and Health, p. 186), "the only power of evil is to destroy itself. It can never destroy one iota of good."
