So many blessings have come to me through the power of Truth that I desire to give this testimony to the glory of God. I did not take up the study of Christian Science for my own sake, but turned to it in July, 1914, in order to help a dear member of my family, whose need seemed greater than mine. I knew nothing about this teaching except severe criticisms, but after reading two pamphlets which in a most unexpected way came into my hands I decided it was the religion I had so long been looking for. A loving practitioner who was asked to treat this member of the family very kindly lent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and told me to read it as often as possible. At that time I was very miserable in every way. Doctors advised an operation for appendicitis, and also said I had kidney disease. Sleeplessness, worry, fear, and all the etceteras flesh is heir to were added to my troubles. I however would not consent to an operation, and right then and there discarded all material help.

I did not ask a practitioner to treat me, but continued to read Science and Health, and one night when to human sense it seemed as if I could not endure any more, I prayed earnestly to God to show me the way. How wonderful is answered prayer, and the knowledge that one is alone with God! For the first time I realized what it was to "enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." The next morning I awakened with a feeling of the most wonderful peace and freedom. Beliefs of sickness that had held me in bondage for years were cast off like discarded garments. I was free! It is almost four years since this healing truth came to me, and can truly say that "the foundation of God standeth sure."

I have had so many proofs of the power of Truth it would take hours to tell about them all. I am indeed thankful to God for Christian Science, and to Christ Jesus the Wayshower, also grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who was pure enough to give us again a healing religion. I am also grateful for class instruction, which has proved to be one of the guideposts to a clearer understanding of God.
