Christian Science has freed both my husband and myself from many discordant conditions, leading us, though slowly, to gain some understanding of the love expressed in the Christ, which enabled our Master to lift mankind mentally and physically above the clamorings of mortal wrong thinking. Soon after my first steps in Christian Science I was healed of so-called drying cartilage. This trouble had so far developed as to make kneeling impossible. The knees were becoming deformed and the joints grated audibly, causing sharp pain, especially when I tried to quicken my pace. I well remember the first two communion services which I attended at a Christian Science church, for when the congregation were invited to kneel in silent prayer and I was unable to get down on my knees with the rest, a painful sense of self-consciousness caused me great discomfort. It was not then realized that self-consciousness is a disease in itself. Since my healing I have knelt whenever the desire or necessity has occurred. My husband and I have made cycling tours during summer holidays, and the ascent and descent of some of the stiffest hills in this country have been accomplished without pain. Nearly all my joints were affected, and a specialist said there was no cure for me. All this trouble has yielded to the truth, and the fear of heredity has likewise gone.

Error has tried in other ways to make me afraid, manifesting itself as fluid and causing the knee to swell so much that the leg was drawn up backward until the point of the shoe rested on the ground. Christian Science treatment was asked for and in a very few hours the condition began to disappear, leaving the leg free to act in the natural way. This trouble came again when I was engaged in literature distribution work for the church. I was a few miles from home and my district not half visited. Mental work was, however, done, and remembering the needs of others I was enabled to overcome the sense of fear and finish my church work. Since that time, over three years ago, there has been no more trouble.

It had been a source of grief to me that gratitude for all these blessings was not consciously so deeply felt as was the case with many who expressed gratitude at the Wednesday evening meetings, but, as time passed, a quiet sense of ever deepening gladness and thankfulness found its way into my consciousness for all the good that Christian Science reveals to me. It protects our thought and our home, it brings us true friendship, it opens our understanding, and broadens our vision; above all, it makes us loving and more tolerant. For a member of my family Christian Science has completely overcome hemorrhoids and has reduced varicose veins to almost nonexistence, this, too, when the sufferer had not for many years put a foot to the ground before bandaging the legs. Bandages are never thought of now; gratitude has taken their place, while an ever growing desire to learn more of this regenerating truth is being constantly fed by this "bread from heaven."
