With reference to an editorial review of the book, "Systems of Psychotherapy or Spiritual Healing," I wish to make a brief explanation in behalf of Christian Science. This religion distinguishes sharply between different objects of faith. Faith in God is religious; faith in any other object is irreligious. Moreover, Christian Science is not content with faith alone; it demands spiritual understanding. Christ Jesus distinguished himself and his followers from all other religionists when he said, "We know what we worship."

Many and various recoveries from disease are due merely to the fact that the human mind and body are one. Such cases may have no religious significance whatever. On the other hand, Christian Science healing is healing by spiritual law; it is healing by the known power and action of divine Spirit. In the words of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science (Science and Health, p. 16), "The highest prayer is not one of faith merely; it is demonstration."
