Although Christian Science is the greatest blessing that has come into my life, I did not commence the study of it for physical healing, but because I knew a great many Christian Scientists who seemed to be happier and to get more out of life than the ordinary person. I had heard of many healings brought about through the application of this teaching and wanted to know what it was that did the healing. Being a firm believer in materia medica, I thought that Scientists must use a little medicine with their spiritual application. It did not take long, however, to convince me to the contrary, for after studying only six months I became very sick with influenza and at once resorted to material remedies for help. Having always been very successful in administering medicine to myself and others, I had no hesitancy in treating myself. I tried all the ingredients that I had formerly used for this trouble, but nothing seemed to help me. I grew worse each day, and finally my friends told me that I would have to call in either a doctor or a Christian Science practitioner, as my case was alarming. Knowing that I had tried all that a doctor could do for me, I asked a friend to call a practitioner. My condition began to improve at once and in two weeks I was able to go to my office, although I still had a slight cough.

One day the cough seemed more severe than it had been for some time, and as I was passing a drug store a lot of cough drops such as I had taken before were being put in the window. I said to myself that there was not enough medicine in those to be called real medicine, but they would cure my cough and I would not tell the practitioner; so I bought a package and put one of the cough drops in my mouth, but became very sick. I told my practitioner what I had done and have never tasted medicine since. That was about eight years ago. Since then a very bad case of catarrh, from which I had suffered for over twenty years, has left me. I had tried all kinds of remedies, but got no relief until I was healed by reading Science and Health and striving to know more of the truth. We have a little daughter who is between four and five years old and has never tasted medicine. She is strong, healthy, and vigorous.

I am thankful not only for the physical healings but also for the spiritual uplift and the knowledge that we have something always with us which we can apply to every case of inharmony.—Charles T. Morrell, Victor, Mont.
