Simply to say that I am grateful for...
Simply to say that I am grateful for what Christian Science has done for me and mine would be to express my gratitude very feebly. Of the many proofs of God's care I wish especially to mention one which came about while this camp seemed in such peril of the epidemic called Spanish influenza. I had seen several of my comrades walk out of rank, fall over, and be carried to the hospital overcome by the disease; so when I began to feel ill, fear overwhelmed me with the suggestion that I was getting it. We were all out on reveille formation one morning when everything seemed to get black before my eyes and I could scarcely stand alone, so stood there leaning on my rifle. I was gradually becoming unconscious when I heard some one, as though far away, telling me to move over and stand at attention, so I moved over and straightened up the best I could, all the time declaring the truth. Within fifteen minutes everything cleared up, the cloud lifted, and I was completely healed.
I have been interested in Christian Science about five years, and during that time I have been healed of mumps and catarrh. I have also been delivered from possible accident, and have seen my children delivered from disease. From the outset I have been a daily student of Christian Science, relying on this truth in all things, but my quick delivery from the attack of influenza and the fear of death has caused me to be most grateful. At that time over half our company was in the hospital and very few escaped the disease entirely. That I was one of those who escaped I owe entirely to Christian Science. For this, and for many other proofs of the power of Truth, I am thankful to God, also grateful to Mrs. Eddy, and to the loving Scientists who have always given a helping hand when I seemed to need it.
