I am very grateful for all that Christian Science has done...
I am very grateful for all that Christian Science has done for me. After my little son was born I was left with a very serious internal condition for which doctors advised an operation. I did not, however, have any help either medically or from Christian Science for many months, and the condition became much worse. In August, 1915, I asked for Christian Science treatment, and became, I am very thankful to say, rapidly better and am now strong and healthy. I know that there is no life in matter; and the understanding of man as spiritual and not material, as God's image and likeness, has brought me a wonderful spiritual uplift, for which I am very grateful. Christian Science has helped me to overcome my fears for my son. It was also a great help and comfort during air raids and bombardments. I felt that "underneath are the everlasting arms," and the sense of security, making the seeming danger and chaos quite unreal, was wonderful.
Not long ago I manifested a serious eye trouble, which interfered with my sight. I had absent treatment from a Christian Scientist and in a short time the eye became quite well and my sight normal; but even greater healing came to me just at that time. I had become slack and doubtful, and had been losing sight of spiritual things and thinking more of material things. Whilst my sight was affected, I clearly saw how I had been making for myself "other gods," and had been allowing beliefs of bad temper, dishonesty, and selfishness to hold me in bondage. I turned away from material sense and the suggestions of mortal mind, looked steadfastly toward the one God, and knew man to be the perfect, spiritual idea of this one perfect God. I can never express in words the wonderful change that this contemplation has brought—how just in proportion as I realize that man reflects only God's likeness, sin loses its seeming influence and power over me.
I am indeed thankful for the peace and harmony which the study of Christian Science has brought into my life, and very grateful to Mrs. Eddy for showing us how to work out our own salvation.
