During the past few years it has been my privilege to experience such beautiful proofs of divine Love's protecting guidance and care in supplying all human needs, that I feel impelled to send a testimony to the Sentinel with the hope that it may help some worker who is sorely tempted to yield to discouragement.
In 1913 a great sorrow came to me. Although I had been a widow many years, supporting myself, and for several years a student of Christian Science, I seemed crushed and alone, and there being insufficient financial supply the outlook was not bright. I was living in the East but came to Seattle to be with a widowed sister who was a staunch Christian Scientist, and through faithful study the light of Truth soon shone clearer. We decided to establish a home together, but according to material reckoning our income was very limited. Both being past the age to obtain a business position, we decided to buy, if possible, a small ranch. Divine Love seemed to lead us right to one which had a cow, chickens, fruit, and so on, which we could buy on terms that we thought we could manage. On June 20, 1914, we moved into our humble little house, we two alone with God. We took up our work, daily striving to seek "first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness," trusting Jesus' promise that "all these things shall be added unto you." With our own hands we have so transformed the inside of our ranch house that it is a cozy and pleasing little home, flowers are on the lawn, and every day we thank God for our peaceful home. Although alone most of the time, we are never lonely. We are happy, prospered and protected by divine Love day by day, gaining daily a higher understanding of God. Headache, cold, cough, heart disease, acute lung trouble, severely injured foot, and other ills have been overcome by a realization of the perfection of God, and of man as God's reflection. A valuable cow was saved through my understanding of Christian Science.
On one occasion a timber fire, driven by a strong wind, came sweeping toward our home. My sister and I were striving to realize God's perfect protection while working with the aid of others to check its progress. It seemed that all must be lost, when there was a lull, the direction of the wind changed, and the danger was over. At a time when the need seemed very urgent and to mortal sense there was no supply to meet the demand, financial help came. We had been earnestly striving to realize the spiritual meaning of Mrs. Eddy's words on page 307 of "Miscellaneous Writings," "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies."
