The following testimony has long been waiting for expression
The following testimony has long been waiting for expression. I became interested in Christian Science through a conversation with the First Reader of the local church, who extended to me a cordial invitation to attend the services. For twenty-five years my wife and I were members of an orthodox church and were active and faithful helpers in sharing the responsibilities this relation entailed. Wider reading at length and investigation along other lines gradually weaned us from the orthodox faith and creeds and we did not attend any church for several years.
My wife, my daughter, and I were all suffering from chronic ailments, with no assurance of permanent relief; and the home was a depository of drugs and lotions, faithfully taken and applied, with no profit save to the druggist and the family physician. Such were the physical conditions of the family, and coupled with these were discouragement, inharmony, unrest, and small measure of faith for anything better in this life. Then came the invitation to attend the Christian Science services. The first Sabbath my daughter and I went to church, and the following Sabbath all three went together; and our attendance has been constant ever since, a period of nearly fourteen years. The truth as there spoken appealed to each of us, and the study of Christian Science was sincerely entered upon. With the aid of practitioners and our own study of the literature, the belief in the reality of sickness and suffering was overcome, and we have since enjoyed such health, hopefulness, and activity as we had never before experienced. The home was early cleansed of its medicinal stores and appliances, and the call for a physician became but a memory. We soon became members of the local church and of The Mother Church and entered heartily into the work of helping to do for others what had been done for us.
I am indeed grateful to Mrs. Eddy, whom the loving Father privileged to do a work for humanity which has blessed and will increasingly bless mankind, and will ever afford an unfailing covert from the storm.
