Since the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," was first published forty-two years ago by Mary Baker Eddy, it has weathered the storms of hatred, opposition, and misinterpretation. The sharp winds of sarcasm and vilification have driven furiously at Mrs. Eddy, but all to no avail; for the Christian Science movement, in its spread around the world, has earned and is continuously accorded a larger degree of the respect it deserves. The fact that acquaintanceship with the teachings and practice of Christian Science dispels the storms of opposition shows that these storms are gendered in the darkness of ignorance and the vacuum of fearsome bigotry.

No one is justified in making a butt of the religious faith of his fellows, especially of Christian Science, which has been proved, not only by its teachings, but by the "signs following," to be the reinstatement of primitive Christianity. The Christian life and accomplishments of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science entitle her to the respect and honor of all who are seeking the betterment of mankind, and it is significant that she is most highly esteemed by those who knew her best. The Governor of New Hampshire spoke of Mrs. Eddy as: "The Granite State's greatest woman. She has left the impression of her work not only on New England, but on the entire world, and we are proud of her."
