Compassion of the Christ

The transforming power of divine Truth, made known through Christian Science, is soon evidenced in the great change which takes place in our lives when we have earnestly and with sincerity taken up the study of this Science. We see life from a new point of view, and many qualities of thought which were held in high esteem are found, in the new light, to be wolves in sheep's clothing.

"By compassion we make another's misery our own" was probably our highest concept of sympathy before the light of Christian Science revealed to our consciousness that compassion is the offspring of divine Love. True sympathy is the recognition of another's need and the supplying of that need: it is that deep, compassionate love for humanity which renders thought receptive of the reflection of the truth. Those beautiful lines from our Hymnal (p. 98),—
