"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered...

"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." The truth of these words of St. Paul has indeed been revealed to me since becoming a student of Christian Science. The blessings that have come to my daughter and myself during this time have been manifold. Every erroneous condition of mortal mind, whether the problem was a physical, financial, or moral one, has been met and mastered through the understanding of Truth as taught in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. In some instances the difficulty has been overcome immediately, while in others it seemed to take longer; but I am learning that time has nothing to do with God's work, since the demonstration of Truth's power is not for time but for eternity.

I will relate an experience which occurred several years ago, and at the time seemed like a great affliction. I soon learned, however, that it was not affliction but purification, for it revealed the care and protection of divine Love in a degree that we had never experienced before. My daughter, then about eleven years of age, went for a day's picnic with some companions, and upon her return in the evening complained of a pain in her heel, caused, she said, by jumping off a rock into the water and striking her heel on something that had penetrated it as she struck the bed of the creek. A look at the foot, however, disclosed no visible evidence of anything of the kind with the exception of a slight bruise. She asked me for Christian Science treatment, which I gladly gave her, but being a very young student of this teaching I did not seem to have sufficient understanding to overcome the fear that was manifest. I treated her to the best of my understanding until the next evening, when the foot presented very serious symptoms. My work necessitated my absence from home all that day, and about five o'clock in the afternoon the maid at the house called me on the telephone, stating that the child was very sick. I immediately returned home, where I found her with a high fever and vomiting. She could hardly move her jaws, and the foot was much discolored and badly swollen. I was almost overwhelmed with fear, and asked if she wanted a physician to come and remove the foreign matter, but she emphatically declined, with the statement that God was all she needed.

A Christian Science practitioner was at once called, and after some delay arrived at our home about nine o'clock. When he came the child did not seem any better and was lying on the bed moaning with pain, but he declared the allness of God's power and presence and assured me that there was nothing to fear. About two o'clock in the morning she became easier and fell asleep, so the practitioner returned to his home. At about eight o'clock she awoke, with no sense of pain, and the swelling had disappeared. In a few hours the heel discharged and became perfectly normal, and in a day or two that foot was being used as freely as the other. Several weeks afterward three small stones came from the heel, but during the interval it had given her no trouble whatever.
