It is over twelve years since I first tried Christian Science, and its healing efficacy has been demonstrated many times. One of the earliest effects was the overcoming of profanity. Some time later, one evening about dark, I stepped on a large nail, which penetrated my foot, but with the help of my good wife we were able to realize enough of the truth to overcome the pain and soreness so that I attended to my duties the following day. After over two years of study of Christian Science I was still an inveterate tobacco user. I engaged a practitioner to help free me from that habit, but without the desired effect. At the end of two weeks the practitioner said it was of no use for him to treat me; that I knew enough of the truth to handle the case myself. Being thrown on my own resources I studied more faithfully the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and as soon as I became conscious that man, created in the image and likeness of God, is not required to serve any relentless master, the habit was overcome. That was in November, 1905, and I have not used tobacco since.

Not long ago I asked my son, a boy of fourteen years, to drive the goats in, as it was nearly dark. Not hearing the bells as soon as I expected I went out to ascertain the cause. Before I found out, it was very dark and the goats had strayed nearly a mile away up on a mountain that has a perpendicular cliff. When I discovered them the boy was driving them toward home along the bottom of this cliff, which was safe enough in daylight except where some gullies have been washed down. Just as I let him know that I had come, a large goat attacked him as he was trying to cross one of these gullies. He called to me that he was falling and the goat was butting him, but it was so dark I could not get to him or see where he was. Then the thought came to me that God was able and willing to take care of my son on the face of that cliff in the dark as well as anywhere else, and I had nothing to fear. In a moment the boy called that he was all right and the goat had gone along with the rest. We got them home without any more trouble.

The foregoing are only a few of the benefits I have received from Christian Science. The seemingly small helps and comforts one receives daily from the teaching of Christian Science are a wonderful blessing, but it is difficult to tell of them so that others can understand why we are so thankful to God and grateful to Mrs. Eddy for what little understanding we have of the great truths taught in the Bible.—P.
