From the Press

[Rev. Geoffrey Gordon, M.A., C.F., in The Daily Graphic, London, Eng.]

The writer of the article "A Word to the Churches," is surely right when he says that the reconstruction of the future depends upon character, and the development of character is the churches' duty and the churches' opportunity.

When he states that the first step will be a genuine move toward unity, he may or may not be right. Great changes must come, but it is too soon to predict the form that they will take. Out here men are living an altogether abnormal life, and though it is true that their minds are more open than they were to the need of religious changes, it is probable that on few of us has any fixed or final impression as yet been made. It is, however, vital to remember that the church is made up of the whole body of her members, and not of the clergy only. When we think of the future work of the church we must look for leadership to those, clergy and laity alike, who out here have faced reality and will surely be impatient of unrealities at home. ... but the hope of the future lies in the soldiers who have seen God in the fellowship and sacrifice of war.
