In Morgenposten, under the heading, "Thought-transference and Imagination," appears a review of the book "To Influence and to be Influenced." From page 12 of this book the critic quotes a sentence which reads: "A modern religious society, the Church of Christ, Scientist, rests wholly on consistent suggestion and self-suggestion." If the author by this sentence intends to enlighten the general public on what foundation Christian Science rests, he could hardly have chosen an explanation more erroneous and misleading.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 72), "Not personal intercommunion but divine law is the communicator of truth, health, and harmony to earth and humanity." With these words the Discoverer of Christian Science informs the readers that this teaching is wholly separated from suggestion and self-suggestion. Christian Science recognizes that God, or Spirit, is the "sustaining infinite" (Science and Health, Pref., p. vii), which imparts its hallowing influence directly to that consciousness which has left the broad way of suggestion and self-suggestion and has chosen to go in through the narrow gate of divine law. This choice leads the truth seekers into the narrow way of obedience which Christ Jesus trod and consistently followed, with the result that he received power to drive out suggestion and self-suggestion, or the work of the devil, both for himself and for others. The Master's life and blessed, triumphant career is the foundation on which the Christian Science organization is built.

Christian Scientists endeavor to have that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus," for only through this Mind can they prove themselves to be consistent and worthy followers of the Christian Science teaching.
